Common Cameron

Here's a funny website, trying to take the mickey out of David Cameron but in reality looking rather silly. Talk about desperation! As for playing the man rather than playing the ball...

Still, the images are quite enjoyable, for all that!

Tweet of the day - 15 Feb 2011

From Kevin Schofield, on the new rat-catcher feline at Number Ten:

"Larry the new Downing Street cat to be unveiled today. Is this David Cameron's Claws 4 moment?"

Tweet of the day - 6 Feb 2011

From JosephAGallant, in response to others' tweets:

"We Once had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope and Johnny Cash: Now, We Have Obama, No Hope and No Cash !!!"

Book of the (New) Year

James Delingpole's delightful book of one-per-day ways to drive a 'liberal' crazy - 365 in total. The example he quotes at The Telegraph is typical:

"Q. Why did God give liberals annoying, whiny voices?
 A. So that even the blind could hate them."

It looks like being a fun read!

Tweet of the day - 30 Dec 2010

From Iain Dale, after having read Labour MP Chris Bryant's somewhat poor attempt at poetry (which starts off reasonably okay and then goes horribly wrong):

"A plea to @chrisbryantmp - Don't give up the day job"

Even more amusingly, Bryant appears to have taken this as Dale appreciating him as an MP and wanting him to stay on, as he tweeted (about half an hour later, and seemingly without a trace of sarcasm or irony):

"@iaindale Thanks, Iain."

Perhaps the Labour MP isn't familiar with that well-established expression "don't give up the day job"...

Spare a thought for Santa

It's not easy operating in today's world:

Tip o' the hat to Daniel Hannan for posting this today!

Tweet of the day - 23 Dec 2010

From Andrew Sparrow (so yes, a little bird told me) of The Guardian:

"Barack Obama was nicknamed 'Spock' by British government officials"
I'd have said he's perhaps more like Tuvok; but see what you think from the Spock-alike picture at left, and the Tuvok-alike picture below, both of which I found on-line.

Tweet of the day - 18 Dec 2010

From Matt Chorley, from his personal Twitter account (he is also political correspondent for the Independent on Sunday):
"#PoliticalAdventCalendar Day 18: Philip Hammond apologises to football supporters waiting in the snow as the grit hits a fan"

(This hasn't actually happened, by the way: it was just a play on words!)

Tweet of the day - 11 Dec 2010

Actually two, the second correcting the first, from James Graham (who formerly ran the Quaequam blog) to Gaby Hinsliff (former political editor of The Observer) about half an hour ago as I write this. The original was:
"@gabyhinsliff A lot of that is prob because Clegg shits between claiming to prevent Tory cuts and being a true believer on an hourly basis."
A minute or so later he tweeted this correction:
"@gabyhinsliff Sorry, meant 'shifts'. Naughtie me."
The reference there is to James Naughtie who made an even worse slip-up on Radio 4 earlier in the week, when referring to Jeremy Hunt the Culture Secretary and getting his capital C and H transposed.

Book title of the year

The book title of 2010 just has to be this:
"Beyond the Crash: Overcoming the First Crisis of Globalisation"
Guess whose book that is? Yes, it was so obvious wasn't it? Gordon Brown. With a title like that, it's bound to sell, oh, at least one or two copies!

P.S. Also do read this about Brown's latest interview.

Tweet of the day - 2 Dec 2010

The BBC's Nicky Campbell, tweeting on the England team's bid to host the 2018 World Cup here:
"Huge credit to the team though. David was spectacular. I can see why people think he is sex on legs. An absolute icon. Beckham was good too."

Campaign of the day - 17 Nov 2010

Labour Uncut today launches its campaign to have a Labour politician included in Strictly Come Dancing. After Vince "Twinkle-toes" Cable a while back, and now Ann Widdecombe, perhaps it is time for Labour's Peter Mandelson to return to the dance floor.

After all, not doing so would surely be "unfair" (in Labour's terms) and possibly even "discriminatory" (step forward, Harriet Harman). Unfortunately he has refused to take part in the show's Christmas Special.

I'd like to state my tacit support for the campaign, though, if only to avoid the risk of a 'uman rights or similar case being brought by Labour in the European Courts!

Tweet of the day - 10 Nov 2010

From Guido, on the topic of the fire at CCHQ:
"On the plus side Millbank first floor is the Audit Commission so could be actual bonfire of a quango."

Red Ed's Diner

Guido has been to Red Ed's Diner at the Conservative party conference, and apparently found "the beer a little flat". Note the "David's bitter", "no bananas" and "only serving your second choice" signs!

I gather the Ed Mili "jammy" sandwiches were selling quite well, as were the David Mili "egg and cress-fallen" sarnies, though perhaps not quite as fast as last year's Gordon Brown's porky pies!

That viral video - the Islamist version

Seen at Cranmer. There's no pressure, really. Be warned: it's a bit gory at the end, but blame the eco-warriors who created the original video for that!

Meanwhile, comments about the now-removed original mini-movie at the 10:10 website continue apace - 664 at the current count. Incidentally, it looks as though the reaction they are getting is precisely what they intended, so don't be fooled by the "apology".

I'm not posting the original here, and I suggest no-one else now does either: it's a carefully crafted scam to get the maximum publicity. The above version, though...
